  1. Cases are assigned by date of onset, diagnosis, or report — whichever is earliest; therefore, case counts may be updated as new data become available.
  2. By national convention, cases are assigned by patient residence.
  3. Areas with low or no case counts may reflect absence of testing rather than absence of disease.
  4. Rapid influenza tests may give false positive or false negative results. PCR testing is recommended for confirmation. Information on influenza testing available here: www.cdc.gov/flu/professionals/diagnosis

Influenza-Like Illness (ILI) Surveillance

Seasonal influenza--like illness(ILI) reporting for the 2013-2014 flu season ended May 17th and will resume in early October. Health-care providers interested in participating in ILI surveillance for the 2014-2015 influenza season should call the Alaska influenza surveillance coordinator at: 269-8093.
